Seiji Yamashita is an award-winning jazz pianist and composer based in Washington, DC. Known for his lyrical compositions and his dynamic technique and improvisation, Seiji’s playing and compositions are rooted in a deep understanding of the jazz tradition and classical composition while incorporating the aesthetics of contemporary rhythmic and harmonic styles.  

Seiji was previously based in New York City, and is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, where he studied with the luminary composer and pianist, Bill Dobbins. He has performed at major venues and festivals, including the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, SFJAZZ, and the Monterey Jazz Festival.
